Where groups actually meet in Panama City

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. San Miguelito

    Metro lines 1 and 2

The only interchange between the two Metro lines, and the fair answer for a group split between the city and the eastern districts towards Tocumen.

  2. Albrook

Metro Line 1, MetroBus and the Gran Terminal

The western end of Line 1, next to the national bus terminal and Albrook Mall, and the natural pick for a group with people coming in from the west.

  3. 5 de Mayo

    Metro Line 1 and MetroBus

At Plaza 5 de Mayo on Avenida Central, close to the old city, and a good middle for a group that wants to end up in Casco Viejo or Santa Ana.

  4. Iglesia del Carmen

    Metro Line 1 and MetroBus

On Vía España at the edge of El Cangrejo and Obarrio, which makes it fairer than the old city for a group living in the banking district and the new high-rises.

  5. Vía Argentina

    Metro Line 1

In El Cangrejo, a walkable pocket of cafés and restaurants, and the right call when most of the group lives in the central districts and wants to stay on foot.

  6. Corredor Sur

Metro Line 2 and the airport branch

Where the branch to Tocumen airport splits off Line 2, and the fair choice for a group in the east or with someone arriving from the airport.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Panama City

Panama City stretches along the bay, then spills inland and east towards San Miguelito and Tocumen, and most people still get around by car, taxi or MetroBus. Traffic is heavy on the main roads, and the bay and the hills break up any straight line on the map. A midpoint that looks central can be a short walk for one person and an hour in traffic for another.

The Metro is the fast spine, and it is simple to read. Line 1 runs from Albrook through the centre to the north, and Line 2 runs east to Nuevo Tocumen. The two lines meet only at San Miguelito, which is why that station matters for any group with people on both sides of the city. MetroBus fills in most of the rest.

El Cangrejo groups can skip Casco Viejo

The old city is not automatically fair. A group living in El Cangrejo, Obarrio and San Francisco is better served by Iglesia del Carmen or Vía Argentina than by a trip to Casco Viejo. A group split between the city and the eastern districts is better off at San Miguelito or Corredor Sur. Anyone coming in from the west across the canal may find Albrook fairer, since it sits right by the bus terminal.

In the rainy season, roughly May to November, afternoon downpours can bring the roads to a standstill in minutes, while the Metro is untouched by road traffic. For a group mixing drivers and Metro riders, togather times each journey separately on its own mode and picks out places where the trips are close in length. Enter the starting points, choose how each person travels, and compare.

Meeting halfway in Panama City - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Panama City?
Usually a Metro station rather than the map's middle - Iglesia del Carmen or Vía Argentina for the central districts, 5 de Mayo for the old city, San Miguelito for a group split with the east. togather works out which.
Most of us drive or take a taxi. Does it still work?
Yes, and here that is common. Driving times come from real road routes, so someone stuck on the Corredor Norte or Vía Transístmica is not treated as though they were as close as the map suggests.
