Meet halfway in Lagos

For a group meeting in Lagos, where most people get around by car, the fairest points are usually Ikeja City Mall, Yaba, Surulere or Victoria Island, depending on how the group splits between the mainland and the island. togather times each person's drive door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip across the bridges.

Where groups actually meet in Lagos

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. Ikeja City Mall

Car via Obafemi Awolowo Way in Alausa

The best-known meeting place on the mainland, central to Ikeja, Ogba and Maryland, and the fair answer when nobody in the group needs to cross onto the island.

  2. Maryland Mall

Car via Ikorodu Road, on the Lagos BRT corridor

Sits where Ikorodu Road meets the routes from Ikeja and Gbagada, which makes it a good middle for a mainland group spread north and west rather than clustered in one district.

  3. Yaba

Car via Herbert Macaulay Way, plus the Red Line's Yaba station

Close to the mainland end of the Third Mainland Bridge, so it is often the fairest compromise for a group split between the mainland and the island, with plenty of cafes and tech spaces.

  4. Surulere

Car via Adeniran Ogunsanya Street and Funsho Williams Avenue

Central on the mainland and close to the Eko and Carter bridges, which makes it a fair point for a group with people starting in Apapa, Mushin and Lagos Island.

  5. Oshodi

Car via Agege Motor Road, plus the Red Line and the Oshodi interchange

The mainland's transport crossroads near the domestic airport, and a fair middle for a group spread along the Agege and Ikorodu Road axes towards the north of the state.

  6. Victoria Island

Car via Ahmadu Bello Way and Adeola Odeku Street

The island's business and restaurant district, and the fair answer when most of the group lives on the island or in Ikoyi and only one or two are coming from the mainland.

  7. Lekki Phase 1 (Admiralty Way)

Car via the Lekki-Epe Expressway and Admiralty Way

Lined with restaurants and lounges, and the natural middle for a group spread between Victoria Island, Ikoyi and the newer estates further east along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Lagos

Lagos is a city of water and bridges, and that geography decides how long every trip takes. The mainland and the island are joined by only a few crossings - the Third Mainland Bridge, the Eko Bridge and the Carter Bridge - so two friends who look close on the map can face very different drives depending on which side of the lagoon they start.

That makes the halfway point on a map almost useless here. It often lands in the lagoon, or at the foot of a bridge where traffic is heaviest. The Red Line and the Blue Line now run on specific corridors, but most groups will still have people far from a station, and togather can only time a rail leg where Google Maps has that line’s timetable. For most Lagos groups, car or walking is the honest setting.

Stay on your own side of the lagoon if you can

A group that lives entirely on the mainland rarely needs to cross a bridge at all: Ikeja City Mall or Maryland Mall suit the north, Surulere the south and centre. An island crowd is better off at Victoria Island or along Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1. The hard case is the mixed group, and there Yaba is often the compromise, close to the mainland end of the Third Mainland Bridge.

Danfos and ride-hailing carry a huge share of trips, but the fair answer still comes down to who has to drive the furthest in traffic. With so few bridges, a single jam on the Third Mainland can decide the evening. togather times each driver and walker separately and suggests places where their journeys come out close, so the person crossing the lagoon is not the only one making an effort.

Meeting halfway in Lagos - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Lagos?
It depends mostly on who has to cross the water. A mainland group often lands near Ikeja City Mall or Yaba, an island group near Victoria Island or Lekki Phase 1. togather works out which from everyone's real driving times.
Does togather time danfos or BRT buses?
No. Danfos and other informal routes are not timed. Set each person to car or walking, and togather finds a spot where nobody's journey is much longer than the rest.
Why is the map midpoint so wrong in Lagos?
Because the lagoon splits the city and only a few bridges cross it. The midpoint between Lekki and Ikeja can sit in the water or at the foot of the Third Mainland Bridge, which says nothing about how long either drive takes.
