Meet halfway in Cairo
For a group meeting in Cairo, the fairest points are usually Sadat under Tahrir Square, Al Shohadaa at Ramses, Nasser or Attaba - the stations where Cairo Metro Lines 1, 2 and 3 cross. Many Cairenes drive instead, so togather times each person door to door on the mode they use and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Cairo
Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.
Sadat (Tahrir Square)
Metro Lines 1 and 2
The station under Tahrir Square, where the two oldest lines cross, and the default fair answer for a group spread between Giza, Shubra and the south of the city along Line 1.
Al Shohadaa (Ramses Square)
Metro Lines 1 and 2, plus Ramses railway station
The second crossing of Lines 1 and 2, beside the main railway station, so it is the fairer pick when part of the group starts in Shubra or arrives in Cairo by train.
Nasser
Metro Lines 1 and 3
Where Line 3 meets Line 1 in downtown Cairo, which makes it the fair middle for a group split between Heliopolis or Nasr City in the east and Maadi or Helwan in the south.
Attaba
Metro Lines 2 and 3
The Line 2 and Line 3 crossing near Khan el-Khalili and the old city, and a good centre for a group weighted towards Islamic Cairo, Shubra and the east.
Cairo University
Metro Lines 2 and 3
The western crossing of Lines 2 and 3 on the Giza side, which keeps a group from Dokki, Mohandessin and Imbaba from all having to cross the Nile into downtown.
Heliopolis Square
Metro Line 3
Line 3's stop for the Korba district of Heliopolis, and a fairer meeting point than downtown when most of the group lives in Heliopolis, Nasr City or near the airport.
Stadium
Metro Line 3 and the East Nile Monorail
Where the East Nile Monorail meets Line 3 in Nasr City, so it is the natural middle for a group with people coming in from New Cairo as well as from the older city.
Maadi
Metro Line 1
Line 1's stop for the leafy Maadi district, with plenty of cafes nearby, and the fair choice for a group spread down the southern half of Line 1 towards Helwan.
How to pick a fair meeting point in Cairo
Cairo is a city split by a river, and the Nile decides more trips than distance does. Two friends a few kilometres apart on opposite banks can spend longer getting to each other than two who live much further apart on the same side, because every crossing funnels traffic onto a handful of bridges.
So the point halfway between you on a map is often the worst place to meet. It might sit on Zamalek or in the middle of a bridge approach, easy to point at and slow to reach. The Cairo Metro is the one network that ignores traffic, and its three lines cross in only five places: Sadat, Al Shohadaa, Nasser, Attaba and Cairo University.
On the west bank, Cairo University saves crossing the river
Downtown suits a group spread across the whole city. Sadat under Tahrir Square is the classic answer, with Nasser a short walk away when Line 3 riders from Heliopolis are involved. A group weighted east should look at Heliopolis Square or Stadium, where the East Nile Monorail now brings New Cairo onto the network. On the west bank, Cairo University saves the Giza side from crossing the river at all, which on its own can save a lot of time in traffic.
Plenty of groups mix modes here: one person on Line 1 from Maadi, another driving from Sheikh Zayed, a third walking from Garden City. togather times each of those journeys separately, metro rides and road traffic alike, and narrows the choice to places where nobody’s trip is far out of line with the rest.
Meeting halfway in Cairo - questions
- Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Cairo?
- On the Metro, one of the interchanges - Sadat, Al Shohadaa, Nasser, Attaba or Cairo University. For a group that mostly drives, the fair point is often away from the centre, and togather finds it from everyone's real travel times.
- Should my group take the Metro or drive in Cairo?
- Set it per person. Cairo traffic makes driving times unpredictable across the Nile bridges and the Ring Road, while a Metro trip between two stations stays steady. togather times each journey the way that person will actually make it.
- Does togather include microbuses?
- No. Microbus routes are informal and not timed. Each person can choose the Metro, car, bike or walking, and the result is built from those journeys.
