Meet halfway in Kuala Lumpur
For a group meeting in Kuala Lumpur, the fairest points are usually KL Sentral, Masjid Jamek, Pasar Seni or Bukit Bintang - stations where the LRT, MRT and Monorail lines cross. Which one is fairest depends on where everyone starts: togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Kuala Lumpur
Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.
KL Sentral
Kelana Jaya LRT, KL Monorail, KTM Komuter and the airport trains
The city's main rail hub, so it suits a group spread along different lines, including anyone coming in from Petaling Jaya, Klang or the airport side.
Masjid Jamek
Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines
Where the two oldest LRT lines cross in the old town, which makes it the fair answer for a group split between the Ampang side and the Kelana Jaya side.
Pasar Seni
Kelana Jaya LRT and MRT Kajang line
Links the Kajang line to the LRT one stop from KL Sentral, with Central Market and Chinatown right outside, so there is somewhere to go once everyone arrives.
Bukit Bintang
MRT Kajang line and KL Monorail
The shopping and food district, reachable from the west and the south-east on the Kajang line and from the north on the Monorail. Busy in the evenings and at weekends.
Titiwangsa
Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT, KL Monorail and MRT Putrajaya line
Three lines in one place on the north side of the centre, which makes it fairer than downtown for a group living around Sentul, Kepong or Setapak.
Tun Razak Exchange (TRX)
MRT Kajang and MRT Putrajaya lines
The interchange between the two MRT lines, useful when the group is spread along both of them and nobody wants to ride into the old town first.
Hang Tuah
Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT and KL Monorail
A quieter crossing just south of Bukit Bintang, and a fair pick for a group coming from Cheras or the southern end of the LRT.
How to pick a fair meeting point in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is a hard city to split fairly. The rail network is a set of separate lines built at different times - LRT, MRT, Monorail and KTM Komuter - and the stations where they meet are what decides how long a trip takes, not distance on a map. Two friends a few kilometres apart can still need to change twice if they live on lines that never cross.
So start with the interchanges. KL Sentral joins the most lines in one place, and Masjid Jamek is where the two original LRT lines meet. For a group weighted towards the shopping district, Bukit Bintang links the Kajang line and the Monorail.
A ten-minute train ride can be forty minutes by car
In KL, a group is rarely all on the train. Some people drive, some take the LRT, some walk the last stretch. A station that is ten minutes by train can be forty in evening traffic, and the reverse is also true. A spot that looks central can still be unfair once you account for how each person actually travels.
The heat makes the last walk count too. An extra ten minutes on foot from the station is a real cost, which is often what decides between two otherwise similar interchanges.
Put the LRT riders and the drivers into togather together and it times each of them separately, the walk from the platform included, so the evening traffic and the heat both count. What comes back is a short list of places where everyone’s journey is about the same length.
Meeting halfway in Kuala Lumpur - questions
- Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Kuala Lumpur?
- Usually a rail interchange rather than the geographic middle - KL Sentral and Masjid Jamek are the usual answers, and Titiwangsa or TRX can be fairer depending on where the group lives. togather works out which.
- What if some of us drive and some take the train?
- Set the mode per person. In KL that matters: a station with good train links can be a slow, congested drive, so togather times each journey on the mode that person actually uses and looks for a spot that is fair to both.
