Meet halfway in Taipei

For a group meeting in Taipei, the fairest points are usually Taipei Main Station, Zhongshan, Ximen or Zhongxiao Fuxing - MRT interchanges where two or more lines cross. Which one is fairest depends on where everyone starts: togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Taipei

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. Taipei Main Station

Red and Blue MRT lines, plus TRA, High Speed Rail and the Airport MRT

The city's biggest interchange, so it suits a group spread far apart, including anyone coming in from New Taipei, Taoyuan or further by train.

  2. Zhongshan

    Red and Green lines

One stop north of Main Station, with cafés and department stores right outside, and easier to meet inside than the main station's crowds.

  3. Ximen

    Blue and Green lines

Where the Blue and Green lines cross on the west side, which makes it the fair answer for a group coming from Banqiao, Wanhua or the south-west.

  4. Dongmen

    Red and Orange lines

Next to Yongkang Street, and the fair pick for a group split between the Red line and the Orange line towards Zhonghe and Xinzhuang.

  5. Zhongxiao Fuxing

    Blue and Brown lines

The east-side crossing, near the Zhongxiao shopping streets. Fairer than Main Station for a group living around Xinyi, Songshan or Neihu.

  6. Zhongxiao Xinsheng

    Blue and Orange lines

Sits between the centre and the east, and keeps a group on the Blue and Orange lines from having to ride all the way into Main Station.

  7. Daan

    Red and Brown lines

Where the Red line meets the Brown line, close to Daan Park, and a good middle for a group split between the south of the city and the Brown line.

  8. Nanjing Fuxing

    Green and Brown lines

The north-east crossing, and the fair answer for a group with people near Songshan Airport or along the Green line towards Songshan.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Taipei

Taipei’s MRT is one of the easiest networks in Asia to use, which makes it easy to assume that anywhere central is fair. It usually is not. The lines are numbered by colour and cross at a dozen interchanges, and the one that suits a group depends on which lines everyone lives on.

Taipei Main Station is the obvious answer for a group spread across the region, because it adds the regular trains, the High Speed Rail and the Airport MRT. Inside the city, it is often not the fairest. Zhongshan, Ximen and Dongmen each join two lines a stop or two away and are easier places to meet.

East-side groups are better off at Zhongxiao Fuxing

A group living in the east (Xinyi, Songshan, Neihu) is better served by Zhongxiao Fuxing or Nanjing Fuxing, where the Brown line meets the Blue or Green lines, than by riding into Main Station and back. A group coming from New Taipei on the Blue line is better served by Ximen.

The last stretch matters too. Many people in Taipei cycle or walk the short trips, and a station that is fair by MRT can be unfair for the one person on a YouBike. togather times the MRT rider and the YouBike rider each on their own trip, walking included, and lists the stations where their times line up. Add where everyone is starting and how they travel.

Meeting halfway in Taipei - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Taipei?
Usually an MRT interchange rather than the map's middle - Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan are the usual answers, and Ximen or Zhongxiao Fuxing can be fairer depending on where the group lives. togather works out which.
Can some of us cycle on YouBike?
Yes. Set the mode per person. Taipei is flat and compact in the centre, so for someone close by a bike ride can beat the MRT, and togather times their trip by bike rather than averaging it in with everyone else's train ride.
