Meet halfway in Mumbai

For a group meeting in Mumbai, the fairest points are usually Dadar, Andheri, Bandra or Kurla - stations where the Western, Central and Harbour local lines or the Metro meet. Which one is fairest depends on where everyone starts: togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Mumbai

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. Dadar

    Western and Central local lines

The main crossing between the two big suburban lines, roughly in the middle of the island, so it is the default fair answer for a group split between the western and the central suburbs.

  2. Andheri

Western and Harbour local lines and Metro Line 1

The western suburbs' biggest hub, linked east across the city by Metro Line 1, so it suits a group spread along the Western line and out towards Ghatkopar.

  3. Bandra

    Western and Harbour local lines

Where the Western and Harbour lines meet, with Bandra's cafés and the BKC business district close by. A good middle for a group split between the western suburbs and town.

  4. Kurla

    Central and Harbour local lines

The central-side counterpart to Bandra, and the fair pick for a group with people on the Central line and on the Harbour line towards Navi Mumbai.

  5. Ghatkopar

Central local line and Metro Line 1

Links the Central line to the Metro, which makes it the fairest crossing for a group split between the eastern suburbs and Andheri.

  6. Thane

    Central and Trans-Harbour local lines

The hub for anyone north of the city, and fairer than anything in town when most of the group lives in Thane, Mulund or towards Navi Mumbai.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Mumbai

Mumbai is long and narrow, and that shape decides everything. The city runs north to south along three suburban rail lines - Western, Central and Harbour - and journeys across them are slow. Two friends a short distance apart on a map can be an hour apart if they live on different lines.

So the useful question is where the lines meet. Dadar is where the Western and Central lines cross, which is why it settles so many group arguments. Bandra and Kurla join the Harbour line to the other two, and Andheri and Ghatkopar are linked across the suburbs by Metro Line 1.

The suburbs often beat Dadar

The middle of the island is not automatically fair. A group living mostly in the western suburbs is better served by Andheri or Bandra than by a trip down to town. A group with people in Thane and Navi Mumbai is better served by Thane or Kurla. Sending everyone to Dadar can add a long ride for people who never needed to cross it.

Peak hours change the answer too: a car journey that is fine at 3pm can take twice as long at 7pm, while the train time stays about the same. togather times each person separately, by train or by car as they would really travel, and looks for places where everyone’s journey takes about as long. Put in the starting points before the group defaults to Dadar.

Meeting halfway in Mumbai - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Mumbai?
Usually a station where two local lines meet rather than the middle of the map - Dadar is the classic answer, and Bandra, Kurla or Andheri can be fairer depending on where the group lives. togather works out which.
Mumbai is huge - can a meeting point really be fair for everyone?
Not always equally, but it can be close. A group from Borivali, Thane and Colaba will all have a long trip; the point is that nobody gets a much longer one than the rest. togather finds the spots where the gap is smallest.
