Meet halfway in Jakarta

For a group meeting in Jakarta, the fairest points are usually Dukuh Atas, Manggarai, Blok M or Bundaran HI - hubs where the MRT, the KRL Commuter Line, the LRT and TransJakarta meet. Which one is fairest depends on where everyone starts: togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Jakarta

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. Dukuh Atas

MRT, KRL (Sudirman), LRT Jabodebek, the airport train and TransJakarta

The one place where almost every rail system in Jakarta meets, on Jalan Sudirman, so it is the default fair answer for a group spread across the city and the suburbs.

  2. Manggarai

KRL Commuter Line (Bogor, Bekasi and Cikarang lines) and the airport train

The KRL's main interchange, and the fair pick for a group with people coming in from Bogor, Depok or Bekasi by train.

  3. Blok M

MRT and a large TransJakarta terminal

The southern hub, with malls and food courts right there, and fairer than the centre for a group living in South Jakarta.

  4. Bundaran HI

    MRT and TransJakarta Corridor 1

At the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in the heart of the city, with Grand Indonesia next door, and an easy middle for a group along the MRT and Corridor 1.

  5. Tanah Abang

KRL Commuter Line (Rangkasbitung line and the loop) and TransJakarta

The west-side KRL hub, and fairer than anything in the south for a group with people coming from Serpong or Tangerang Selatan.

  6. Cawang

KRL Commuter Line, LRT Jabodebek and TransJakarta

The eastern crossing between the LRT and the KRL, and a good middle for a group with people coming in from Bekasi or Cibubur.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Jakarta

In Jakarta, distance on a map tells you almost nothing. Traffic decides how long a road trip takes, and a friend 5 km away by car can take longer to arrive than one 20 km away who lives next to a KRL station.

The rail network has grown fast, and it is what makes a fair meeting point possible. The MRT runs north-south along Sudirman and Thamrin, the KRL Commuter Line brings people in from Bogor, Depok, Bekasi and Tangerang, and the LRT Jabodebek links the east. TransJakarta buses fill the gaps.

Start with the hubs

Dukuh Atas is the one place where almost all of these meet, which is why it settles so many group plans. For a group in the south, Blok M is fairer. For a group with people coming in by KRL from Bogor or Bekasi, Manggarai or Cawang saves them a second change.

Mixed groups are normal here: someone drives, someone takes the KRL, someone uses TransJakarta. Because traffic, not distance, sets the driver’s time, a spot that suits the KRL riders can be the worst option for the person in a car. togather calculates each journey separately, with traffic for the driver and the timetable for the riders, and looks for places where no one’s trip is far out of line with the rest.

Meeting halfway in Jakarta - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Jakarta?
Usually a rail hub rather than the map's middle - Dukuh Atas is the classic answer, and Blok M, Manggarai or Cawang can be fairer depending on where the group lives. togather works out which.
Isn't it easier for everyone to drive?
Often not. Jakarta traffic can turn a short distance into a long trip, while the MRT and KRL times stay steady. You can set car or transit per person, and togather times each journey the way that person will actually make it.
