Meet halfway in Buenos Aires

For a group meeting in Buenos Aires, the fairest points are usually the Obelisco (9 de Julio), Plaza de Mayo, Once or Retiro - stations where several Subte lines or the suburban trains meet. Which one is fairest depends on where everyone starts: togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Buenos Aires

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. 9 de Julio / Carlos Pellegrini / Diagonal Norte

    Subte lines B, C and D

Three lines meet under the Obelisco, in the middle of the city, so most of Buenos Aires reaches it with one change at most.

  2. Perú / Catedral / Bolívar

    Subte lines A, D and E

The Plaza de Mayo crossing, and the fair answer for a group split between lines A, D and E, with San Telmo a short walk south.

  3. Plaza Miserere / Once

Subte lines A and H and the Sarmiento train

The western hub, and fairer than the centre for a group with people coming in on the Sarmiento line or from Caballito and Flores.

  4. Retiro

Subte lines C and E and the Mitre, San Martín and Belgrano trains

The northern rail terminus, and the fair pick for a group with people coming in from the northern suburbs by train.

  5. Constitución

Subte line C and the Roca train

The southern terminus, and the fair answer for a group with people coming in from the southern suburbs on the Roca line.

  6. Santa Fe / Pueyrredón

    Subte lines D and H

In Recoleta and Barrio Norte, and a good middle for a group split between the D line towards Palermo and the H line.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires looks like a simple grid, which makes it easy to assume the middle of the map is fair. It usually is not. The Subte lines all run out from the centre like spokes, and they cross only in a few places downtown. Two friends in neighbouring barrios on different lines can still need to go into the centre and back out.

So start with the crossings. Under the Obelisco, lines B, C and D meet, and most of the city reaches it with a single change. Plaza de Mayo joins lines A, D and E. Once, Retiro and Constitución link the Subte to the suburban trains, which matters as soon as someone in the group lives outside the city.

Palermo groups meet at Santa Fe, western ones at Once

The centre is not automatically fair. A group living in Palermo, Belgrano and Recoleta is better served by Santa Fe than by a ride downtown. A group with people out west is better served by Once.

Many trips here are by colectivo, and many short ones are on foot or by bike. togather times every one of those trips, whether Subte, colectivo, Ecobici or walking, from each person’s own corner, and suggests where the group’s times come out close. Drop the link in the chat and let the group pick a café.

Meeting halfway in Buenos Aires - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Buenos Aires?
Usually a Subte interchange rather than the map's middle - the Obelisco and Plaza de Mayo are the usual answers, and Once, Retiro or Santa Fe can be fairer depending on where the group lives. togather works out which.
Does it work if some of us take the colectivo or cycle?
Yes. Set the mode per person. Transit times include buses where they are faster, and a short ride on an Ecobici is timed as a bike ride rather than averaged in with everyone else's trip.
