Meet halfway in Tunis

For a group meeting in Tunis, the fairest points are usually Place de Barcelone, Place de la République, Bab Saadoun or Tunis Marine - the stations where the métro léger lines meet each other, the mainline trains or the TGM to La Marsa. togather times each person door to door, driving included, and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Tunis

Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.

  1. Place de Barcelone

Métro léger lines 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6, plus Gare de Tunis

The busiest interchange in the city, beside the main railway station and the RFR suburban lines, and the default fair answer for a group spread across Greater Tunis.

  2. Place de la République

    Métro léger lines 2, 3, 4 and 5

Where line 2 from Ariana meets the western lines, so it is the fairer pick when part of the group lives in the northern suburbs such as Ariana and El Menzah.

  3. Bab Saadoun

    Métro léger lines 3, 4 and 5

The western crossing of three lines at the edge of the medina, and a good middle for a group weighted towards Le Bardo and the western districts.

  4. Tunis Marine

Métro léger lines 3 and 6, plus the TGM

At the lakeside end of Avenue Habib Bourguiba, where the TGM leaves for La Goulette, Carthage and La Marsa, which makes it the fair point for a group split between the city and the northern coast.

  5. Bab Alioua

Métro léger lines 1 and 6

Where the two southern lines meet, and fairer than the centre for a group with people coming from Ben Arous or El Mourouj.

  6. Avenue Habib Bourguiba

Walking from Place de Barcelone, République and Tunis Marine

The city's main boulevard, lined with cafes between the medina and the lake. It runs for over a kilometre, so name the spot: the clock tower on Place du 14 Janvier 2011, at the eastern end, is the one everyone can find.

  7. La Marsa

TGM terminus, plus car along the coast road

The seaside suburb at the end of the TGM, full of cafes, and the fair pick for a group living along the northern coast from Carthage to Gammarth.

How to pick a fair meeting point in Tunis

Tunis wraps around a lake, and that shapes every trip across the city. The Lake of Tunis sits between the centre and the northern coast, so a friend in La Marsa and one in the medina are linked only by the causeway, the coast roads and the TGM line. Distance on a map says little about how long either journey takes.

The halfway point between two people often lands in the lake itself, or in a district neither of them can reach easily. The métro léger is what makes a fair meeting point possible for a transit group: six lines meeting at a few central stations, with Place de Barcelone, Place de la République and Bab Saadoun carrying most of the transfers.

Coast groups are better off on the TGM

For a group spread across Greater Tunis, Place de Barcelone or Avenue Habib Bourguiba keep things central. République is fairer when people come from Ariana and the north, Bab Saadoun suits the west, and Bab Alioua the southern suburbs. When part of the group lives along the coast, Tunis Marine or La Marsa on the TGM keeps them from a long trip inland, and in summer it is the more pleasant place to sit anyway.

Plenty of groups mix modes here: one person on line 2 from Ariana, another driving from Les Berges du Lac, a third walking from Lafayette. togather handles that mix by timing each journey on its own terms, the métro léger ride, the drive and the walk, and showing where the three times come closest. Enter the starting points and pick a mode for each person.

Meeting halfway in Tunis - questions

Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Tunis?
On the métro léger, one of the crossings - Place de Barcelone, République or Bab Saadoun - or Tunis Marine if anyone is coming in on the TGM. For a group that mostly drives, the fair point can be elsewhere, and togather finds it.
Does togather include louages or shared taxis?
No. Louages and other shared taxis are not timed. Each person can choose métro léger, car, bike or walking, and the result is built from those journeys.
Why is the map midpoint wrong in Tunis?
Because the Lake of Tunis sits between the centre and the coast. The midpoint between someone in La Marsa and someone in the city can land in the water, and the real route depends on the causeway and the TGM.
