Meet halfway in Montevideo
For a group meeting in Montevideo, the fairest points are usually on the main bus axes - Tres Cruces, Plaza Cagancha on 18 de Julio, Plaza Independencia or the Belloni interchange - because the city has no metro and STM buses and cars carry most trips. togather times each person door to door and finds the spots where nobody is stuck with a much longer trip.

Where groups actually meet in Montevideo
Interchanges that work as a fair midpoint for most groups. togather will not always land on one of these - it answers for your actual starting points - but they are the ones that come up again and again.
Terminal Tres Cruces
STM urban buses and intercity coaches
The main bus terminal, where Bulevar Artigas meets 8 de Octubre and Avenida Italia, so lines from almost every side of the city pass close by.
Plaza Cagancha
STM buses along Avenida 18 de Julio
On 18 de Julio in the Centro, the avenue most bus lines run along at some point, which makes it about as reachable as any single point in the city.
Plaza Independencia
STM buses along 18 de Julio and the Ciudad Vieja routes
Between the Centro and Ciudad Vieja, and the natural pick when the plan is downtown and the group wants somewhere to walk to rather than a bus stop.
Intercambiador Belloni
STM urban and suburban buses on 8 de Octubre
A purpose-built interchange in the north-east, and fairer than the centre for a group with people coming in from Piedras Blancas, Manga or Canelones.
Terminal Colón
STM buses and the Garzón corridor
The northern hub, and the fair answer for a group based in Colón, Sayago and the north rather than a long ride down to the Centro.
Portones de Carrasco
STM buses on Avenida Italia and the coast routes
The eastern bus hub by the Portones shopping centre, and fairer than the Centro for a group spread across Carrasco, Malvín and the eastern coast.
How to pick a fair meeting point in Montevideo
Montevideo has no metro, and that changes how a fair point works. Almost every trip is by STM bus, car, bike or on foot, and buses follow a handful of big avenues rather than straight lines. The map’s midpoint can land in a quiet residential block that no line serves directly, leaving one person with a short walk and another with two buses and a transfer.
What matters instead is where the bus axes meet. Tres Cruces sits where Bulevar Artigas meets 8 de Octubre and Avenida Italia, and 18 de Julio carries lines from across the city through Plaza Cagancha to Plaza Independencia. The outer hubs, Belloni, Colón and Portones, gather the lines from the north-east, the north and the east.
Tres Cruces for a scattered group, Terminal Colón for the north
The Centro is not automatically fair. A group living in Pocitos, Malvín and Carrasco is better served by somewhere along the coast or Portones than by a trip downtown. A group spread across Colón and Sayago is better off at Terminal Colón. A group from every corner usually lands near Tres Cruces, where the terminal itself has cafés and somewhere to wait out of the weather if someone is running late.
The Rambla makes cycling a real option for anyone near the coast, as long as the wind off the river is not blowing straight at them. With no metro to anchor the plan, togather times each bus ride, drive, cycle or walk on its own and suggests spots where the trips are close in length. Share the shortlist and let the group choose the café.
Meeting halfway in Montevideo - questions
- Where is a fair place to meet halfway in Montevideo?
- Usually on a main bus axis rather than the map's middle - Tres Cruces or Plaza Cagancha for a group spread across the city, Belloni for the north-east, Portones for the east. togather works out which from everyone's start.
- Does it work if some of us cycle along the Rambla?
- Yes. Set the mode per person. A ride along the Rambla is timed as a bike ride, a bus trip as a bus trip, and a drive on real road routes, rather than everyone's trip being averaged into one.
