How togather compares to MeetWays

MeetWays finds a meeting point by taking the midpoint of the driving route between two places, then showing venues nearby. togather is built for a group in a city: it times each person's real journey on the mode they actually use - transit, bike, walking or driving - for up to eight people, and scores places by how even those journeys are, not by distance.

When the group isn’t all in cars

MeetWays does one thing cleanly: it takes two addresses, finds the midpoint along the driving route, and shows places to meet around it. For two people driving on open roads, that is a reasonable answer.

It starts to strain the moment the group is bigger than two or nobody is driving. A driving midpoint has no idea that one person is on the metro, another is cycling, and a third is walking in from nearby - and in a city those journeys don’t follow the roads a car does. The point that is halfway by car can sit off every transit line.

What togather does instead

togather starts from travel time, on the mode each person actually uses. Everyone’s journey - transit, bike, walking or driving - is timed on its own network, and places are ranked by two things together: the average journey time for the group and the spread, the gap between the longest and the shortest trip. A spot that is quick on average but leaves one person with a forty-minute haul loses to one where everyone is within a few minutes of each other.

That is the whole difference. MeetWays answers “where is the middle of the drive?”. togather answers “where is everyone’s journey most even?”, for up to eight people, and shows each person’s travel time next to the result so the group can see it is fair.

Both are free and need no account. If your group drives everywhere and there are two of you, either works. If you’re a group in a city arriving different ways, that’s what togather is built for.

Questions

Is togather a good MeetWays alternative?
Yes, especially for a group that is not all driving. MeetWays centres on the driving midpoint between two places; togather times each person's real journey by transit, bike, foot or car and balances the whole group, so it fits city meet-ups where people arrive different ways.
What is the main difference between togather and MeetWays?
The mode. MeetWays works from driving routes and distance; togather sets a travel mode per person and scores places by how even everyone's journey time is - the average and the gap between the longest and shortest trip - rather than by the midpoint of a drive.
Does togather work for more than two people?
Yes, up to eight starting points, each with its own travel mode. That is the case togather is built for - a group in a city arriving by different means - where a two-point driving midpoint tends to leave someone with the long trip.
Is togather free like MeetWays?
Yes. togather is free, needs no account and no app, and runs in any browser. You add each person's starting point, pick how they travel, and share the result as one link.
